The Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest is open to all young people between the ages of 8 and 14. Entries can be in either the Alcohol Awareness and Abuse competition or the Drug Awareness and Abuse competition. Each poster must include a slogan reflecting either of the topics and an original visual image. Posters may only be entered under one topic.
Each Council is encouraged to participate in this worthwhile youth event. Columbian Squires circles should work with their sponsoring councils in conducting contests. Councils can reach out to the children of Brother Knights as well as local parochial and public school teachers and administrators.
Councils should order the Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest kits, which contain all the materials needed to participate in the contest, by calling the Department of Fraternal Services at (203) 752-4625. The kits should be ordered in December and the Council should be ready to present the contest in January. Posters should be completed by the end of January, and the Council judging should take place in February. District Deputies should coordinate District judging prior to the Sate judging. District Deputies should bring their District’s winning entries to the Sate Free Throw contest on March 4, 2017 where the State judging will occur. Winning entries at the State level will be submitted to the Supreme Council where they will be entered in the international competition with winners from contests in other jurisdictions.
